A winter storm will spread northward Wednesday afternoon, bringing with it up to 4″ of snow by Thursday morning before temperatures nosedive into the single digits Thursday night.
Accumulating snowfall is expected to begin between 2-4 pm in the Morris and Joliet areas and between 3-6 pm north of I-80. Winds will pick up early Thursday morning which may lead to blowing and drifting, and the snow should wind down by about 2 pm.
Total accumulations of 2-4″ are forecast for most of Chicagoland, with 1-3″ farther north and in the Rockford area.
A strong cold front moving in overnight will bring the coldest temperatures of the season. Temps will continue to fall throughout the day on Thursday with an expected low Friday morning of only -1°.
