A system is approaching the area which will bring anywhere from 1-4″ of snow and favoring the southern half of the region.
Light snow will spread in from the south this afternoon, between 3-5 pm and starting after 5 pm north of the I-80 corridor. Most of the snowfall will occur late tonight, though snow will continue into Thursday when another 1″ may fall, primarily in the morning hours.
Total snowfall accumulations look to be greatest south: 2-4″ in Southern Cook, Will and Grundy counties; an average of 2-3″ I-88 north to Lake County; and 1-3″ northwest of the city towards McHenry County and into the Rockford area.
There is a chance for lake effect snow late Thursday and early Friday for areas of Cook County nearest the lake and Northwest Indiana.
