Storm Recap: Summary of the February 12-13 Snow Event

Wednesday’s storm system brought another round of snow to the area, adding a few more inches to this season’s snowfall totals.

Snowfall began Wednesday afternoon, just prior to the evening commute, and continued steadily throughout the night and early morning hours. Winds picked up overnight with highest gusts approaching 30 MPH, leading to some minor blowing and drifting of snow.

Snow totals came in largely as we predicted in our Weather Alert, with most areas receiving around 3-4″ of accumulation. Ottawa received only 2.3″ while the area’s highest accumulations were in Northwest Indiana, with Crown Point picking up 5.4″ and 6.2″ just south of Valparaiso. Officially O’Hare received 3.5″, bringing the season’s total snowfall there to 25.2″.

There is a slight chance of some mid-day flurries or light snow showers Saturday, with any accumulation expected to be less than an inch.
