Another round of snow develops early this afternoon, with expected widespread accumulation totals of 2-4″ throughout northern Illinois and northwest Indiana by early Friday morning.
Snow will spread into the area from the southwest to the northeast, arriving around 1-2 pm near Ottawa and Kankakee, between 2-4 pm for the bulk of the Chicagoland area, and after 4 pm in far northeast Illinois near Waukegan. Areas south of I-80 could see a brief period of heavier snowfall before transitioning to a mix of light snow and freezing drizzle, while north of I-80 will see mainly light snow with rates up to a half-inch per hour throughout the evening. Snowfall will gradually taper off after 3 am, with just some flurries lingering by the Friday morning commute.
Following tonight’s snow, dryer conditions are forecast for the next several days, with milder temperatures reaching the mid-40s by Monday.
