Snowfall precedes bitter cold with wind chills as low as -30° tonight
The region remains in a very active weather pattern of cold and snow, as a fast-moving Alberta Clipper system tracks into the area today, bringing up to 4″ of snow to some parts of the area.
Snow will begin falling around 12-2 pm in the Rockford area and 2-3 pm in Chicago, before exiting the area in the late evening hours. Given the cold, dry air, snow will be quite fluffy, with rates of 1/2″ per hour possible, making for slippery road conditions and low visibility at times.
Snowfall amounts will generally favor the southern half of the region, with up to 4″ south of the I-88 corridor. Accumulation should taper off northward, with only up to 2″ in the Rockford and Lake County areas.
The other weather headline continues to be the bitterly cold weather, with wind chills as low as -30° tonight.
Sunday brings the potential for some very light isolated snow showers, with a better chance for a widespread 1-3″ snowfall on Monday.
