Snow showers resulting in minor accumulations are in the forecast for this evening through Sunday morning, after periods of rain later today transition to snow in the afternoon.
Steady rainfall will begin spreading into the region from the west to east around 1-3 pm, eventually mixing with light snow showers before transitioning to mainly snow in the early evening hours. Light snow showers will continue throughout the early morning hours on Friday, possibly mixing with drizzle at times.
Snowfall totals throughout early Friday morning will be generally low, about 1″ for most of the region, except for far northern Illinois which could see 2″ in the Rockford area and McHenry and Lake Counties.
More snow showers develop late Friday night into Saturday morning with accumulations of around an inch or less. A slight chance for a few additional flurries exists on Sunday, with only trace amounts expected at this time.
As always, Arctic Snow & Ice Control will monitor conditions 24/7 throughout the weekend for any potential changes in the forecast.
