A fast-moving storm system will move into the area late Sunday night and bring up to 11″ to some parts of Northern Illinois.
Snow is expected to begin between 8-10 pm in the Rockford area, and between 10 pm – 12 Midnight in the Greater Chicago area. Heaviest snowfall is expected to end around 6 am, but light snow and flurries will continue throughout the day on Monday.
The heaviest snow is expected to hit the Rockford area and northern counties along the Illinois/Wisconsin state line, where 8-11″ is forecast. 6-9″ is expected from the I-90 corridor south to Joliet, and 4-7″ further south.
There are still discrepancies on the exact track of this storm system. Some models are suggesting a more northerly track, which would result in lower totals across the region.
After a high in the low 30s on Monday, bitterly cold temperatures will follow for Tuesday through Thursday, with some potentially record-breaking low temperatures forecast.
