Mixed precipitation will increase in coverage and intensity over the area this afternoon and evening. Freezing drizzle is currently spreading across northern Illinois and northwestern Indiana, including the Rockford and Chicago areas.
Precipitation will mainly be freezing drizzle, initially mixed with freezing sleet, according to the latest forecast models, and winds down by 2-4 am Sunday. Scattered freezing rain showers are forecast along and south of the Kankakee River Valley. Additionally, there’s a possibility for fog later this evening, mainly along and south of I-80.
A Winter Weather Advisory is active by the National Weather Service, primarily for hazardous travel conditions due to icing conditions, for all of Northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana through Midnight.
Sunday’s forecast calls for colder, blustery conditions as temperatures drop throughout the day, with wind chill values below zero expected Sunday night into Monday morning.
